Books arrived!

Thursday, April 28, 2011 3:17 PM By The Petrina Blogger

Yes, I am back, already. Its been awhile since I have done that:P

However, Azah's school books arrived. I spent time today planning out week ahead and getting everything ready to go. Very excited! I had planned on just photocopying the work so I could reuse the seatwork books for Roman. However, she had other ideas. I think thats fair. Kids in the school system tend to use workbooks.

Real fast I did want to share a few links.
I have not decided how long we will take but next Monday we are starting the 10 Commandments for Bible Study. I was trying to come up with a lesson plan for both this and Art. Makes it more fun! I couldnt find anything that I got excited about. After thinking about it some, we will be learning about how butterflies form:). Then I remembered a passage about the 10 Commandments and the old covenant and the new covenant of Grace. Its easy to think of the changes when you think how a butterfly starts its life:). Heres a link talking more about it.

Seriously, its been this long!? Well, I found that with homeschooling both the kiddies and now over half way through another pregnancy..finding lessons and links in my favorites is a hassle!! Its also eatting up some serious cpu space:). So, I REALLY need to keep up here, makes it much easier to find links and such down the road:). Plus its fun to share! I have truly found some amazing FREE online lessons for the kids. Azah is the most amazing kid, all around. Currently I mostly use online tools for her, print outs, etc. But she has far exceeded my expectations. She is now doing second grade math and is in first grade reading. I believe the only thing I have held back on from first grade is cursive, she IS still only 4 and I think thats a bit much! The baby is due in August and after a break from our tedious school schedule, we will start Azah with lessons from A Beka. Roman is amazing, as well. At one point I thought the boy was color blind, however now knowing his colors I believe it was more that he just wanted to go for another round of "lets see how far I can jump of the table." By the way, he finally broke the table for the final time and we had to purchase a more sustaniable one:P. Roman is currently on E with Alphabet recognition, as well as up to number 4 for recognition. We are also working on number values. Working with marble math, as I did with Azah. The kid loves marbles:). He started to pretend to read, as well...which is new for me, as Azah just wanted to know how to sound everything out and to REALLY read. Azah is a great teacher and a good helper with her little brother. In the meantime, Roman refuses that we might be having a girl. He protests and says he wont hold a girl baby. lol, however he too denies that he will be a big brother and always wants to be a little brother. I take that as a testiment from him that Azah must be a great big sister. Here is a great link for money worksheets. I love generator sites! http://http//mathfactcafe.com/money/default.aspx A few years ago I found a site with wonderful free printables, she also has some for sale. Sign up, she has daily free printables. My favorite is the playdough cards, we used them for Azah when she was refining her letter recognition. Now that we are working with Roman on the same task, I reprinted a few that I was missing. HOWEVER, it took me ages to find the link to that printable (this one is free). SO I will save you the hassle and share the link, as a thank you for reading my blog:). The first link is the home site link, the second is the PDF format for the cards. http://http//www.childcareland.com/ http://http//www.earlylearningactivities.com/PDF/pdalphacards.pdf NOTE~I have had a hard time getting replied emails back, so until you make contact I would not purchase anything and I would stick to the freebies:).

June 2010

Monday, June 21, 2010 11:44 AM By The Petrina Blogger

O.K here we are!!
I keep promising to keep up on the blog, however I am not sure if anyone reads..so I will try
not to overdue the guilt:).
It does keep up the motivation to homeschool and keeps me on track with our goals.
This month will be busy with "THE SUN DANCE", Azahs birthday and Music in the Park which starts the evening of Azah's birthday. Unknown to her shes going to have a remarkable birthday. We are buliding her a swing set. At this point we are sanding and staining the wood and she thinks we are building her a skate board. What a riot! Even better her sweet Gaham is driving all the way from Cali to surprise her at the party:).

For the Summer we are going to slow down with our lessons. Still doing them just stepping back a little. Just for the Summer to enjoy the time we have to camp and go outside without three layers of clothes. Although, I DID make this decision BEFORE ((nearly)) all of our June has been called on account of rain:P. However trying to remember how desperately we need it, since Mother Nature gave us ice and cold and thought the Southern states needed SNOW!!

But taking less time with our lessons this Summer will give me more time to come up with next years lessonsa and do the prep work, to evaluate how well she is going with each lesson, what we need to change or work harder on. In turn, I am working with Roman more on his skilks, counting and colors, mostly.

I started rethinking where we do our lessons, which is our kitchen table. We try to do our lessons outdoors when its nice. Its a great boost to our day! Not that there is anything wrong with working at the table, however I want her work space to ONLY be her work space. Being that we moved the kids from our bed into their own shared room, "Roman's Room" is open, ((which really was just the room where we have the computer and a few toys. Alas, for the time being, it is now their school room and Azah is using the altar table I had made for our wedding, as a desk. Soon I will decor it so it feels like its a room devoted for such:).

We are still getting together with our school mates which really have become our dearest friends. We have made some new friends this Summer, as well.
We had a busy Spring with our trip to California. We saw so many people, many of which were just meeting the kids for the first time. The down fall of living so far from family. We visited many neat places, as well. We made a few trips to Sandpoint, to visit with the Petrina's. I will save details of our family adventures for our annual Christmas letter.

I better close for now so I can update the kiddo's blogs, too:).
May you spend each day to the fulliest and be humbled and greatful!
Blessings and Love!

Hello All

Friday, March 5, 2010 7:19 PM By The Petrina Blogger

Its starting to look A lot like Spring here! Very excited about warm weather, but with our bleak winter, fire season might not be good for us. So, we are going to make it a point to go camping early this year. We were so busy with the remodel last year we only got a few trips in. We are also counting down the days for our California vacation! We are excited about all of the things we want to do while we are there. The kids have never been to the Zoo or some of the other places we have planned...It will be a "TOTALLY AWESOME" ((as Azah says)) learning experiences for the kiddos.

We all ((but Danny)) came down with a horrible cold. Azah got the short end of the stick on this one. So school has been more here and there while we spend or efforts resting..or at least me attempting to convince them to rest. At this point I am in survival mode. I can't keep up with Roman and the remains of his adventures. I clean up the big ones, like the one he did today ((you don't even want to know that one)) but leave the little ones for my wonderful husband. Thank you LORD for weekends.

I have many things on my to-do list and will post them before our trip. Thanks for reading.

Blessings to all!!

Looking for Homeschooling Buddy for Roman

Wednesday, February 24, 2010 8:45 PM By The Petrina Blogger

Hello Friends!!

Roman will be TWO in April! Don't know where the time has gone. I am hoping that by this Spring/Summer, Roman will be ready to start preschool homeschooling. I currently do preschool homeschooling with my daughter Azah, who is turning four in June. We school daily and get together twice weekly with our friends to school/craft together. Its been very beneficial and we have made great friends. I would like to give Roman this same wonderful experience with someone his own age. If anyone is interested PLEASE Facebook or email me!

I prefer to get together at our home for schooling, however during the warmer months would love to do outdoor projects with the kids, too! Azah and I really have a great schedule going at the house and I don't want to break that up for her. By mid Summer, I expect that she will be fully into Kindergarten work and will be easily entertained so we can work with the little ones. Please ask any and all questions!
Blessings

Danny's 33rd Birthday

Friday, February 19, 2010 10:02 PM By The Petrina Blogger

Its way past the birthday, which was Dec 22ND! However, I came across the photos and wanted to share the cake I made. I was so excited to see his reaction, he was like a kid in a candy store!

Made with a Wilson Guitar Pan. They have two different ones, I believe. This was the Acoustic. We are Celiac, so we used two Gluten Free chocolate mixes. We use Namestee's. YUMMY! I hand crafted the neck, tuners and knobs with chocolate. Used real string for the cords. I used Fondant over the cake and hand painted it with a mix of oil and coloring. I made the pick guard with a thick fondant and paint mix, as well. I made the sign with my Cricut. I spent two days making this cake, as I had to do it while Danny was at work so he wouldn't see it. I did it the night before his birthday and then kept it in the basement covered. Shew, one great reason to have a birthday during the cold months. The basement is like a fridge in the winter and kept it perfectly cooled! lol. Azah helped me so much with the cake, as well. Thankfully I have a daughter who can keep it a secret "cause its a serprise". Minus the sign and the string, it was all edible!

Lets Try Blogger

I tried many sites for blogging our day, however they were too time consuming to learn the ropes. Lets be realistic, how much SPARE TIME do I have with two little ones? I RECENTLY tried Facebook. I happened to set it up on a day they were having issues, even had family and friends joined as fans and their system blitzed and erased it! lol. So I decided not to torture myself by trying it again! I heard a lot of good things about Blogger, so lets give it a whirl!! Sorry about all the traveling you all have done to follow us! But hey, we all need a new adventure, right!? :P.
